When we stopped in to see our good friends, Nancy and Wayne Krantz, in Wisconsin this summer, Wayne casually said, "When you pick those hot peppers, send some up to us.  We'd love to try them!".  Wayne and the kids did such a great job, we dubbed him the "Pepper Czar" and decided to post his play-by-play comments online for you to enjoy.  Here are some of the best.  Thanks Wayne!!!

Aurora

Cut off bottom tip. Chewed it up no problem. Little to no flavor or heat (keep reading...)

30 seconds my mouth is starting to warm up

1 minutes - tip of tongue is HOT

2 minutes - front half of tongue and inside of lips - BURNING HOT

The flavor and intensity continues to build to the 4 minute mark 

5 minutes - still hot but not pulsating any more

7 minutes - the burning is gone but the pepper heat and flavor is still there

8 minutes - tapering off

9 minutes - still tingling through-out the mouth

14 minutes - gone

Dhanraj

Sweet to the taste - not real hot

2 minutes tip of tongue warm, good pepper flavor

3 minutes tapering off

4 minutes going away

5 minutes gone

Lemon Drop

Sweet to the taste - heat building in back of throat

1 minute  tip of tongue burning

2 minutes HOT like the Aurora

3 minutes - entire mouth is burning

(Emily licked the pepper on the open cut and immediately ran SCREAMING for a cup of milk)

4 minutes leveling off

5 minutes lips still tingling

6 minutes really dropping off

8 minutes all but gone - minor tingling lips only

This was kinda the same as the Aurora, but not as long, more pepper flavor and a bit less heat

Jamaican Hot Chocolate

Not much initial taste

10 seconds the heat is coming - center of tongue

30 seconds front of tongue and back of mouth HOT

1 minute - mouth BURNING, entire tongue and back of mouth

Greg - roof of his mouth is BURNING HOT

2 minutes - leveling off

3 minutes going down hill

about the same heat magnitude as the Aurora, but much shorter duration

4 minutes - back to warm

5 minutes - going away

6 minutes almost gone

It made both our noses run!

7 minutes - very light tingle

9 minutes just warm

10 minutes  gone

Peach Habanero

Bite - 10 seconds - heat is there

1 minute - Nick runs for milk - hot - entire mouth - not as hot as the Aurora or Lemon Drop

2 minutes leveling off

3 minutes - starting to fade

5 minutes - slight tingle left

7 minutes - almost gone

Orange Habanero

1 minute heat - burning

2 minutes - going away

Ate seeds and membrane

HOT FAST front of mouth, tongue, lips

4 minutes - good pepper heat and flavor

7 minutes - good level flavor

9 minutes - starting to drop off

12 minutes only slight tingle left

Hinkelhatz

I cut off the bottom half and ate that.

Immediate pepper taste. Not real hot.

30 seconds in my tongue started to feel the heat, lips had minor tingling. 

Two minutes in, the flavor starting to subside, 4 minutes almost gone, 7 minutes nothing

 

Bhut Jolokia(dried)

I did eat a piece about 1/4 the size of my little finger nail.

The taste is immediate,. the HEAT is very quick to follow

1 min - top of tongue is very hot - Nancy said my face was RED and asked if I was gonna be okay.

1.5 min - HOTTEST YET - Nancy asked if I needed milk, I said I wasn't sure

2 min - My entire mouth and back of my throat is engaged

3 min - Mouth watering like crazy

4 min - Still the same level of HEAT

5 min - Starts to relax a bit, not struggling any more - no longer mouth breathing or puffing out

8 min - going away

14 min - flavor and minor heat still on the lips

20 minutes - still there - sneezing

30 minutes - very slight tingle left.

Marbles

It was hot quick. Sharp heat, top of tongue roof of mouth

Not on the lips or back of throat

1 min - heat continues to rise

2 min - leveling off

4 min - heat dropping

6 min - gone

Quick to heat but peaked and tapered off

Peter Pepper

Instant heat - oily flavor coating entire mouth

1 min - heat peaking

2 min - same level

4 min - starting to taper off

5 min - real good flavor nice comfortable level of heat

8 min - gone

Thai Orange

Initial buttery flavor

10 sec - pepper flavor coming through

1 min - heat coming on - tongue very warm

3 min - peaking, still hot

5 min - still warm in parts of mouth - sides of tongue and inside of lips

8 min - pretty much gone

Uganda

Very slight heat - Almost none

1 min - picking up a bit - nice flavor

2 min - getting stronger

3 min - still real warm - not HOT - would be good on nachos

4 min - nice warmth over entire mouth

5 min - starting to drop - still good - maybe wing sauce

7 min - just a tingle left

Fatalii

Instant heat

1 min very HOT - Hottest yet - brought a tear to my eye

2 min - considering milk - go the hiccups

3 min - still very sharp heat, - Why did I eat this???

5 min - starting to level off - nose running a bit

6 minutes struggle is over starting to feel good

8 min - blew my nose again - still very warm

10 min - tapering off

I really struggled the first 3 minutes. Nancy asked me if I was going to be okay

Hades Hot

Tastes like it's gonna be real hot but not yet. Chewed up in my entire mouth

1 min - tingle on lips & tip of tongue

2 min - starting to heat up

3 min - tip of tongue and lips - BURNING

5 min - leveling off

7 min - down to a nice level

8 min - just a slight tingle on the lips - almost gone

Hanoi

not much initial taste - chewed up in entire mouth

30 sec - starting to build inside lips and on tip of tongue

1 min - climbing

2 min - very concentrated on the tip of my tongue

3 min - HOT HOT

4 min - starting to balance into other parts of my mouth

5 min - tapering to a real nice heat/flavor balance

6 min - heat drops to a very good level

8 min - almost all gone

Scotch Bonnet

2 seconds - low rumbling heat - this one's gonna be HOT

20 sec - ramping up - tongue feels it

1 min - lips and back of mouth join the party

2 min - tongue HOT - pulsing

3 min - still getting hotter - not quite as hot as Fatalii

4 min - heat is turning to flavor - the flavor of RED!!!

5 min - leveling off and a nice level of hot (if you like HOT)

6 min - nice pepper level - If you could have gone from zero to here that would be great

8 min - coming down a bit

10 min - just a tingle of a pepper I ate a while ago, left on my lips

Caribbean Red

Sweet taste - 10 seconds heat is there

1 min - heat starting to build - don't think it will match Scotch Bonnet in intensity or duration

2 min - not near as hot as 12 - flavor is a bit sharper but not as intense

3 min - intense heat gone - flavor still full strength

5 min - if you could bottle this level of heat and flavor you could put Buffalo Wild Wings out of business.

7 min - coming down

8 min - gone
