Bhut Jolokia (The World's Hottest Pepper!)

Nuclear Hot The Bhut Jolokia goes by many names including Naga Jolokia, Dorset Naga, and Naga Morich. This is listed in the Guiness Book as world's hottest Pepper rated at over 1,000,000 Scoville heat units!!  Originally from India where in some areas these peppers are smeared on fences to keep wild elephants at bay! Please use extreme caution when handling these as they are extremely hot. Wear rubber gloves and wash hands thoroughly to avoid "lighting up" sensitive areas. The seeds and seed membrane contain the most concentrated amounts of capsicum. Seeds can take up to 28 days to germinate and prefer temperatures 70-80F for optimal germination.

Developed by Jacob B. Garber (1800-1886), a Mennonite horticulturist of Lancaster Co., PA. It was preserved for many years by the Martin family of Ephrata, PA. Known as Mordipeffer or Mordia Geelriewe by the Old Order Mennonites who grew it.  It is a relative of the Jalapeno. 3 to 3 1/2 inch peppers look like carrots as they mature to a deep orange color.  Origin:  USA
